In Uxbridge we clean a single oven for £77. Doubles are £110 and 90cm range cookers £143. First the racks, trays and fan cover come out and are left to soak for the length of the job. Inside the kitchen we do the cavity, the door glass, the rubber seal and the shelf runners by hand, using a scraper and a gel that is left to work for about twenty minutes. You can cook in it the same evening.
| Oven | Price | Time in your kitchen |
|---|---|---|
| Single | £77 | About 2 hours |
| Double | £110 | About 3 hours |
| Range, 90cm | £143 | 3 hours, often more |
One price whatever the state
We charge by the appliance. An oven wiped out every month and one untouched since the house was bought cost the same, which suits people who are embarrassed to describe theirs. A range with two cavities and six cast iron pan supports can run well past three hours if it has been neglected. The price stays at £143. The £67 minimum for one-off jobs never comes into it, because the cheapest oven is already above it.
Soaking the racks
A heated tank travels on some of our vans, and those teams use it whenever there is space to park close to the house. Otherwise the racks soak in your kitchen, and the price is the same either way, so ask at booking if it matters to you. Time does most of the work: a rack goes in black and comes out grey and smooth. Trays go the same way. Enamel shelves are the only thing we keep an eye on: a chipped enamel edge starts to rust once the carbon that sealed it has gone. Metal extractor filters soak alongside the racks, and they rarely take long.
Before we arrive
Switch the oven off a couple of hours ahead so the metal is cool enough to handle. A clear bit of worktop next to it helps, because the racks need somewhere to sit once they are out. Let us know at booking whether your hob is gas or induction: cast iron pan supports can soak with the racks, but an induction top wants nothing abrasive near it. There is nothing to buy and nothing else to prepare.
Shared houses with a cooker on each floor
The licensed student lets on Cowley Road and the streets off Kingston Lane are mostly five and six bed conversions. A good number have two or three kitchens, one per floor, and no lift. That makes for a long morning: three ovens on the job sheet, their extractor filters, and the kit hauled up stairs built for one family. Each oven is charged at the normal rate and we do them all in one trip. Landlords in Cowley and Yiewsley tend to book us for the June changeover, while the house is empty.
Liners get the right treatment
Some ovens have rough, sandy-feeling catalytic liners on the side walls, and they keep their coating because we leave them unscrubbed. If you have a pyrolytic oven with its liner intact, we clean the door and glass and explain that the cavity is designed to burn itself clean, which means you are not paying us for something the oven does anyway.
Adding an oven to other work
Moving out? Then the oven goes on top of the move-out clean, at £31, and it gets done while the rest of the team works through the property. For regular cleaning customers, an oven booked every few months as its own visit keeps the weekly hours free for the rest of the house. Our Uxbridge home page lists the rest of what we do.
Questions we get asked
What do you charge for an oven in Uxbridge?
£77 (single), £110 (double), £143 (90cm range). The price covers the whole appliance: racks and trays taken out and soaked, and the inside and glass cleaned by hand.
How soon can I use the oven?
That evening. Every surface is rinsed and dried before we leave. You do not need to heat it up empty beforehand.
Is the cooker hood included?
Not in the oven price: the extractor is its own line at £28. For that the metal filters come down and soak with the racks, and we wipe down the outside of the hood.
Can you do several ovens in one house?
Yes. We often do three in the shared houses off Cowley Road where each floor has its own kitchen. Each one is charged at the usual rate, and they all get done in the same visit.
Do you use caustic products?
We use professional oven products, with a gel and a scraper inside the cavity. Most of the heavy carbon is on the racks and trays, and those come out to soak.
What about timings for a double?
About three hours for a double at £110, against roughly two hours for a single at £77. A 90cm range at £143 can go past three hours if the pan supports are badly burnt.
