Hillingdon is UB10, east of Uxbridge along the A4020, and it is home to more of our weekly and fortnightly customers than anywhere else. We are about ten minutes away. Because so much of our round is in this postcode, we can usually cover a last-minute gap here when a cleaner is off sick.
| How often | Each cleaner, per hour |
|---|---|
| Weekly | £23 |
| Fortnightly | £24 |
Carpets start at £36 a bedroom, and a move-out clean starts at £156 for a studio, exactly as in the rest of our area.
Interwar semis near the station
Around Hillingdon station the houses are nearly all 1920s and 1930s semis: bay front, pebbledash, a single-storey kitchen added at the back and a staircase that turns halfway up. Two things follow. The back kitchens have low ceilings and poor extraction, so grease settles on top of the wall units and goes hard where nobody looks. And under the fitted carpet there is often parquet or the old boards, which we check before putting any water down, because an open seam lets it through to the wood.
Working around hospital shifts
A fair number of our regulars work at Hillingdon Hospital, and shifts make a rota tricky. Nights are hardest. We tend to settle on a mid-morning slot when the house is empty and nobody is trying to sleep through the vacuum. Fortnightly at £24 suits most of them better than weekly at £23, since a house with people out on long shifts stays tidier between visits than a family home.
Flats above the Uxbridge Road shops
Much of the parade on the A4020 has flats over the shops, and they change hands faster than the houses behind. One and two bedrooms, stairs straight up from the pavement, no lift and nowhere to leave a machine. It means two trips up with the equipment. Those front rooms also catch the grime off the main road, which wipes off the inside of the glass easily and needs a proper detergent on the outside. A one bed move-out there is £207, the same as anywhere else in UB10.
Chalky water on the taps
The supply comes from the chalk and it is hard, so a regular visit spends real time in the bathroom. Kettles suffer most. A shower screen clouds over in two weeks if left, so your cleaner carries descaler and does the screen and taps every time. It takes a minute a visit, and saves an hour of soaking six months later.
Easy to reach
Hillingdon is one stop east of the Uxbridge terminus on both the Metropolitan and the Piccadilly, so cleaners without a car get here easily, and that helps us cover this postcode at short notice more often than the outer villages.
Nearby
Ickenham shares the UB10 postcode, just to the north. Cowley is south-west, past the town centre. Our prices are the same in all three, and the Uxbridge home page has the full list.
Questions we get asked
How much is a weekly cleaner in Hillingdon?
Weekly cleaning is £23 an hour per cleaner and fortnightly is £24. Three hours is the shortest visit and also what most houses near the station book, at £69 a week.
Can you clean carpets that are laid over old floorboards?
Yes, once we have checked it is firmly fixed down. Lots of semis near Hillingdon station have parquet or boards underneath, and an open seam lets water through to the wood.
Can you fit around hospital shift patterns?
Yes. Mid-morning works for most of the Hillingdon Hospital staff we clean for, when the house is empty and nobody is asleep. Fortnightly visits usually fit a shift rota better than weekly ones.
